Anatoly Kaplan: The Enchanted Artist
This exhibition presented the first retrospective of Anatoly Kaplan, a leading 20th-century Soviet artist. Working in Leningrad under Soviet rule, Kaplan developed a distinctive visual language shaped by war, siege, and political repression. Featuring over one hundred works across multiple mediums, the exhibition revealed the breadth of his artistic oeuvre.
Held at Beit Avi Chai in Jerusalem, the exhibition marked the institution’s expanded activities, which now included an art gallery. As the building was not originally designed for exhibitions, the project involved identifying potential exhibition spaces and planning the necessary adaptations to make them functional. This included introducing new lighting systems, clearing elements in the space to enable proper display, developing strategies for versatile, rotating exhibitions, and designing orientation paths to guide visitors through the show.
